Community Standards

Whittier Informed is a place to understand what’s happening in the city and how it affects people. Comments are available to subscribers and are most useful when they add context, raise questions, or share information that helps others better understand an issue. To keep that useful, we apply the following standards.

What this space is for

Comments should contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way. That can include:

  • Sharing relevant information or firsthand experience
  • Asking questions about the topic
  • Providing additional context or perspective

Disagreement is allowed

We expect people to disagree. Many of the issues we cover affect people in different ways, and comments may reflect that. Disagreement, including strong disagreement, is allowed. But it should stay focused on the topic. Comments that turn into personal attacks, harassment, or attempts to intimidate others may be removed.

What’s not allowed

We may remove comments that include:

  • Personal attacks, harassment, or threats
  • Hate speech or discriminatory language
  • False or misleading claims presented as fact
  • Spam, self-promotion, or unrelated content
  • Attempts to disrupt or derail the discussion

We may also limit or remove repetitive or low-effort comments that do not contribute to the discussion.

Moderation

We review comments and may remove content or limit participation at our discretion. This includes comments that violate these standards or make the discussion less useful. We may also restrict or suspend commenting access for users who repeatedly violate these standards. Decisions about moderation are final.
