Doubts Follow Whittier's First Tree Plan Meeting
A council member says she wasn't convinced, and residents are still asking about no-bid contracts, liability, and what counts as a "healthy" tree.
Whittier's community meetings on its new Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) are underway, with three more sessions scheduled through early October. But not everyone at City Hall is convinced the rollout is going well.
The first workshop, held September 17 at the Ocean View Elementary School auditorium, drew a large crowd to hear the city and its consultants lay out the plan that will eventually replace Whittier's suspended Parkway Tree Manual and govern how the city decides which trees come down and which stay standing.
Five days later, Council Member Aida Macedo told her colleagues she wasn't happy with what she saw.
