LA Fitness Whittier Is Becoming Club Studio. Here's What That Means

Same building, same owner — but a very different price tag.

The LA Fitness at 13806 Whittier Blvd permanently closed on May 11, 2026. A sign posted at the location directed members to the nearest LA Fitness, in La Habra.

The building isn't empty. It's being converted into a Club Studio — a different gym brand under the same parent company.

Who owns what

Both LA Fitness and Club Studio are operated by Fitness International LLC, an Irvine-based company that also runs Esporta and City Sports Club. So while the LA Fitness name is going away at this location, the company behind it isn't.

Fitness International launched Club Studio in 2023 as a higher-priced concept with boutique fitness classes and additional wellness amenities. The two brands are aimed at different markets and carry different price tags.

The concept bundles multiple boutique fitness studios — think dedicated rooms for Pilates, cycling, boxing, and yoga — under one roof and one membership, rather than requiring members to pay separately for each.

What the price difference looks like

A standard LA Fitness membership typically runs under $50 a month for nationwide access.

Club Studio memberships, according to the brand's current pricing page, start at $149 a month for access to a single location. A mid-tier membership is $189 a month. A top-tier membership with access to all Club Studio locations nationwide is $249 a month. Their site notes that pricing may vary by location.

There are additional costs for recovery and cryotherapy services.

This isn't the only LA Fitness being converted

Fitness International has been converting LA Fitness locations into Club Studios at other sites as well.

In Southern California, Club Studio currently has open locations in Long Beach, Santa Monica, Irvine, and more. Locations listed as coming soon also include Beverly Hills, Fontana, and Corona. The company has stated publicly it plans to grow the brand from roughly 20 locations to 50 nationwide within the next year, with California as a focus.

City of Whittier building permit No. BL25-2595, issued April 9, 2026, values the 37,325 square foot interior renovation at $3,732,500. The work includes remodeled walls, ceilings, lighting, and finishes throughout the gym and pool area.

What it means if you were an LA Fitness member here

For residents who relied on this location as an affordable gym option, the practical question is where to go next.

Nearby budget-friendly options include 24 Hour Fitness at Whitwood Town Center, EOS Fitness at The Groves, and Planet Fitness on Washington Boulevard. Those gyms were already busy before this closure. Displaced members from Whittier Blvd. will be absorbed into whatever capacity those locations have.

Club Studio is a different kind of gym. It has a price point similar to the boutique fitness options already in the area, like independent Pilates studios, CrossFit gyms, and boot camps. But it sits in its own category: bigger than a neighborhood studio, but more expensive than a traditional gym chain.

An opening timeline for the Whittier Club Studio has not been announced.
