The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission will hold a public hearing October 7 on a proposal to demolish a single-family home and a closed commercial nursery at 11428 Shoemaker Avenue and build 21 three-story townhomes in their place.

The project sits in unincorporated South Whittier, which means the decision belongs to Los Angeles County. The applicant is MV A24 LLC, and the plans are branded Monte Vista Homes.

The developer is asking the county to waive nine development standards, including most of the required guest parking and most of the required front setback.

The October 7 hearing is the public's opportunity to comment before the commission votes.
